MTE: 'The 'M' Technique'

This is one of our 'Guest' courses, written by Dr Jane Buckle and presented by Carolyn Railton.

This certification course is valuable and worthwhile to those wishing to enhance their practice when caring for people with chronic or life limiting illness. Suitable for the very fragile or when massage is inappropriate, it is a series of stroking movements performed in a set sequence of set pressures. Those working in Healthcare and Complementary Therapy would find it particularly beneficial to attend.

The 'm' technique® is a registered method of touch created by Dr Jane Buckle (well-known author of Clinical Aromatherapy in Nursing, which has generally been accepted as the text on Aromatherapy in nursing, and Clinical Aromatherapy: Essential Oils in Practice).

No prior experience is required to attend this Course.

Different from conventional massage it is suitable for anyone wanting to learn how to touch another person therapeutically, which is at the heart of holistic care. The technique is simple and profoundly relaxing for both giver and receiver.

This practical course offers the opportunity to gain new skills which can be applied in a clinical setting to support patients with chronic or life limiting illness.

All students will receive a Certificate of Attendance on the Course and for practitioner certification to be awarded students must be able to: " Demonstrate the technique to a satisfactory level " and Submit two written case studies within 3 months of undertaking the course " Complete a short multi-choice question test

A DVD showing an introduction to the technique with full-body routine, is available on the day at a reduced cost of £15.

At the end of the course you will be able to:

* Enhance your practice with additional skills

* Communicate through touch, providing comfort and support to someone who has chronic or life limiting illness in a holistic way, assisting with quality of life issues

* Demonstrate the 'm' technique on the hand, foot, face, head, neck, arm, leg, stomach and back

* Demonstrate a full body 'm' technique in the correct sequence
