TRI:

'Trigger-point Therapy'

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS COURSE IS ALSO AVAILABLE AS DISTANCE-LEARNING

This 1-day course is for those Massage and/or Aromatherapists who wish to update their knowledge.

It is also the fourth day of the 'Advanced Massage Techniques' course. Once Students complete all days of the Advanced Massage Course a Certificate of Qualification will be awarded.

It enables Students to further develop their range of skills and helps develop an increased awareness of issues of health and disease (physical and mental), in relation to the application of Therapeutic Massage.

A trigger-point is an area of local facilitation that can be housed in any soft tissue structure, most usually muscle and/or fascia. Palpation from the skin and sometimes with pressure may be required to localise these. Trigger-point therapy is a pain-relief technique to alleviate muscle-spasms and cramping. The therapist locates and deactivates `trigger-points', which are often tender areas where muscles have been damaged, or have acquired a recurring spasm or 'kink' that worsens painfully when aggravated.

For Bodywork Therapists

Topics addressed include:

* Trigger Points - how to find them

* Palpatory Assessment

* Trigger Point Massage

* Stretching Exercises for Trigger-point Pain

* Trigger Points for Fibromyalgia

* Cautions & Contra-indications
