Bowen Therapy (The Bowen Technique - Nature in Balance)
It is easy to forget that the body is part of nature. Our modern lives subject us to many harmful aspects, without us realising that the body is a finely tuned structure needing little to upset the balance. It is only when something goes wrong that we appreciate how much we rely on normal functioning and are, therefore, anxious to restore the balance quickly.
The BOWEN TECHNIQUE is a soft tissue remedial therapy consisting of a series of gentle moves over the muscle, ligament, tendon and fascia (connective tissue) of the body, using the thumb and fingers. There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue and the treatment is very gentle, subtle and relaxing. The non-invasiveness and gentleness are what makes the Bowen Technique so unique.
The Bowen Technique is a method of enabling the body to restore itself. It allows the body to do the work required - without imposing the will of the therapist onto the patient. The patient has the opportunity to relax and allow the body time to make the subtle, fine adjustments which help to rebalance, relieve tension and reduce pain.
It can be performed through light clothing, each session lasting approximately 30-45 minutes. In many cases, relieve is gained in 2-6 sessions, although further treatments may sometimes be required. Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Sports Therapists and Physiotherapists and many others use the Bowen Technique and are continually amazed at the effectiveness of this simple and gentle form of 'hands on' therapy.
The Bowen Technique is safe and effective for people of all ages.
The Australian Connection
The BOWEN TECHNIQUE was pioneered by Mr. Tom Bowen of Victoria, Australia in the 1950s. He alone treated an incredible 13,000 patients a year. Oswald Rentsch, an osteopath, studied under Tom Bowen and documented his work. 'Ossie' has been responsible subsequently for introducing the technique into many countries world-wide, with the UK being the most recent to discover the power of this remarkable therapy. 'Bowtech', the original method of The Bowen Technique, was devised by Mr Tom Bowen.
