Distance-Learning

Distance-learning means that you can study from the comfort of your own home anywhere in the world. You will receive an in-depth training manual, DVD support (on some of the Courses) and help and advice via e-mail, telephone or Zoom from your dedicated Moderator.

Professional Associations & Insurance: Our Distance-learning Courses are accepted by most Professional Associations as Continuing Professional Development (CPD). However, it is not possible for us to keep abreast of the increasing number of associations and insurance companies and their ever changing criteria. It is the Student's responsibility to check with their association and insurance provider prior to booking a Course.

The Fees: Fees vary depending on the length of the course (whether it is the equivalent of a 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 day course), DVD-support and examination fees. The Cost includes all Course-notes and DVD (if provided) support. Please note that the DVD discs are for devices that play DVD-Video or +VR formats. This means that they can be played via a television or on a computer if your computer has the ability to read +VR formats.

Delivery of Course Materials: You will receive the course data by post within 2 weeks of our receipt of your application; usually within a few days. If you do not receive it within this time, please let us know.

Assignments: You will e-mail (preferred method), or post, completed assignments, to be checked, marked and returned to you.

Please Note: where a series of modules are purchased together; each module must be completed before the next will be sent.

CPD/Qualification Examinations: We offer our Post-graduate Distance-learning courses either as CPD training (only) or as CPD/Qualification Courses. Should a student's insurance provider require the CPD/Qualification, either a practical or theory examination - via Zoom or in-house - must be completed succesfully. Practical Examinations will cover all practical elements of the training course.

Within 1 year of purchasing the CPD/Qualification Course, the Student must arrange with T.S.I. a mutually convenient date for the examination.

Postal Charges outside UK: Please note that there is a postage charge when sending Course books outside the UK - £10 per Course for Europe, £17 per Course for the Americas and £20 per Course for Australasia.

Starter Packs: Please note that we do not send Starter Packs to Countries outside the U.K. (due to import regulations in many Countries) and materials will have to be sourced locally - please ask for revised Course Costs if your Course is priced to include a Starter Pack.

Payment Methods: We accept Sterling cheques, PAYPAL (please ask for our details) and bank to bank transfers (if transferring from banks outside the UK there will be an additional charge of £10 to contribute to the cost that our Bank charges us) - please ask for our details.

Please note that fees for Distance-learning Courses are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Distance-learning is a very accessible learning modality for many students. However, if on completion of your Distance-learning Course you feel that in addition you would benefit from attending all/part of the same course In-house, we offer a 40% reduction of the In-house Course fee. For courses that run for several consecutive days it might be supportive to the student to only attend selected days. Please contact us to discuss your requirements - we are here to assist you.

Student Comments

"Excellent course work. Easy to understand. Perfect for people like me who fall to pieces in exams, this was the least stressful I have ever felt doing an exam. I can't recommend it highly enough. Every time I asked a question by e-mail it was answered very promptly. I would not change anything, it was all perfect."

"I was unsure about distance learning as I am usually a hands-on, face-to-face learning person but I found this way of learning is great for a busy person as you can choose how much to learn at any one time, and fit it in around your schedule."

"I have been very impressed with the distance learning course. The pack and notes have been very good and I feel the support and response from yourself has been excellent."

"A brilliant course that exceeded expectations. The reading material was thorough, interesting, and has already proved useful. The DVD was very good as well, I really like that you can watch it again and again, often picking up different things on each watch as well as reinforcing existing knowledge. The DVD pace was good, as were the explanations. I like to learn as much as possible so appreciate as many little tips and asides as possible."

"This is the first distance course that I have done, and was a little unsure before booking as to whether a distance course would be as beneficial to me personally as an attendance course. I am pleased to say that these concerns were quickly allayed, I feel as confident having done the distance learning course as I think I would have done doing the attendance course, and would not hesitate to do more. I think you probably actually learn things more thoroughly doing the distance learning as a result of the assignments, reading and rereading info in order to complete the assignments, watching and re-watching the DVD etc."

"The speed and efficiency of The Seed Institute in terms of sending out the information, marking and feedback is highly commendable and much appreciated."

"The support was fantastic. I was hesitant at emailing at first but the answers came back so readily and were so helpful it really was a boost to the course as you felt you didn't miss out on any kind of contact or access to a tutor studying on your own". "The course was excellent, despite my initial doubts that a subject like this could be studied by correspondence course.

Alison is very attentive and answers emails in a positive, dedicated and timely manner. I didn't feel judged or that I had any stupid questions, despite being concerned that I may ask a silly question!

"The course was structured clearly and so that one could learn a lot in an efficient way. The material was presented well. I liked the way some was done in book form and some on DVD. AROMATHERAPY & AYURVEDA (means 'Science of Life') - DISTANCE-LEARNING COURSE

Equivalent to 2 days; CPD only: £160 / With qualification: £260 Book Now How it works

No prior experience is required to take this Course though we strongly advise that only Aromatherapists use essential oils on members of the public.

Ayurveda uses, amongst other things, massage and essential oils to help one to know and understand the body and how to look after it, how to unlock the body's healing processes and how to promote health and vitality throughout everyday life.

This Course teaches about different mind and body-types, what foods and essential oils are best for the different body-types and daily and seasonal routines to keep the mind and body in good condition. It is designed to give deeper insights into how and why essential oils are effective and why certain foods and tastes affect the human metabolism.

For those not qualified in Aromatherapy the use of blended essential oils only are recommended.

Topics include: * Ayurvedic Theory of Creation and the Theory of Balance * Plants, Tastes & Diet * Body-analysis using Ayurvedic Principles * Recognising & finding 'Body-Types', * Essential Oils & Ayurveda Compatibilities * Five Basic 'Building Blocks: Earth, Water, Fire, Air & Ether * The Healer Within & The Restoration of Harmony * The Power of the Wind, Fire & Cohesion

Student Comments: "The course was exactly what I was looking for. I have no prior knowledge of Ayurveda and found the structure very helpful both in terms of its content and the way it guided my reading and research on the internet. The information given is very interesting and engaging. I have done distance learning courses before where the emphasis seemed to be on writing an intellectual, textbook essay, so I found it very helpful when you said to write what I felt was most useful to capture the essence of the subject...I felt that I learned more this way. In your original letter you encouraged contact so I had no hesitation in asking questions. Your replies were very helpful and supportive and my queries were always answered very quickly. I would certainly recommend it to other therapists and will look forward to doing another of your courses in the future." "Quite a lot of info. to go through, Ayurveda is a very complex and in depth subject and I imagine difficult to put into a short 2 day course. I was somewhat overwhelmed when I first read through the booklet. However, with additional research the assignments were achievable and very interesting". "The information in the accompanying workbook was in depth and well presented. Used in conjunction with the recommended books for the course, there is plenty of information about the history, philosophy and practical application of Ayurvedic therapies. The essential oil section at the end is useful for those wanting to incorporate Ayurvedic principles into their massage routines. Responses to my e-mail enquiries have always been quick - usually the same day. I have consistently been given informative feedback and I have always felt confident that I have either learnt something well or I have been guided exactly to the areas that need some more study". "I was unsure about distance learning as I am usually a hands-on, 'face-to-face' learning person but I found this way of learning is great for a busy person as you can choose how much to learn at any one time and fit it in around your schedule. The course itself challenges the western approach to health, is thought-provoking and has relevance to your own personal lifestyle as well as any therapies you may practise. I loved it!"

For Aromatherapists or Bodywork Therapists. Please note that this Course is open to those with no prior experience

This Course was written for Therapists and those who work in the field of Cancer care, but has also proven very useful to those whose lives have been affected by Cancer. This Course was prepared by one of our principal tutors and has the unique perspective of her experience with malignant melanoma. Given a 40% chance of surviving 5 years, she decided to gather data on what she perceived to be the best of both allopathic and complementary medicine and use them to her own advantage. It is the aim of this Course to impart this hard-won knowledge to those who wish to support others in their battle with this disorder. For those not qualified in Aromatherapy the use of blended essential oils only are recommended.

Topics include: * Psychology, Emotions and Fears * Impact of the Stress-factor * Free radical activity, antioxidants, chemotherapy & radiotherapy * Pulse-synchronisation * pH Testing * Consultations and Health & Symptom Profile * Nutrition and the Immune-system * Juicing * Experiences with Gerson Therapy * Specific Essential Oils to support the immune system: recipes for specific conditions * Fragrance-testing: a unique perspective on essential oils - allowing the client to 'smell out' the oils that they require - the importance of olfaction and its impact on those seriously ill * Candida: and its relevance to Cancer * Adjuvant Complementary Therapies and Cancer Treatments * Precautions and Contra-indications to Massage * Enemas, Detoxification, Clay and Castor Oil Packs: their role in relieving pain.

Student comments: "Thank you for your rapid response and supportive comments. I have enjoyed the work and although some of it was not, as a nurse, totally new ground it is always good to revise knowledge. The aromatherapy specific elements were particularly useful for me as I am still a novice in this area. The Course was easy to follow, logical and relevant. I did not ask for additional help but contact at the beginning and end of the course has been swift and very helpful"."I thought the course was very well structured, very thorough. I don't feel as if there are any areas which haven't been covered which should have been. A distance learning course is certainly interactive and I feel that I shall retain more of the knowledge learned than if I had attended a classical course. I appreciated that extra information/knowledge was included in the feedback I received together with the comments on my assignments". "Wow! Thanks so much for the speedy response Alison and the great additional information. I could have written War and Peace but held back, this is all proving to be so interesting!" "Very good, covering many aspects and considerations. Good support material and assignments that required research and thought and some lateral thinking. Very useful to me in my area of work. I am going to use the aroma testing template with the senior management team at the Hospice as a way of introducing the concept of developing the therapeutic relationship through aromatherapy. (Acknowledgements to S.E.E.D). Prompt feedback and response to submitted assignments and queries. Hand books very useful and assignment tasks clearly explained". "The course covered a wide ranging number of related topics and greatly increased my knowledge and understanding of aromatherapy and cancer. I found the sections on nutrition and chemotherapy particularly interesting and the supporting documentation/reading list useful. I liked the self contained modules and working on the assignments at my own pace and am very pleased I took the course. Prompt responses, questions answered in a timely fashion, useful feedback and extra information supplied where appropriate. Could not have asked for more. Thank you."

I found the administration straight forward and clear. I did not need any help from my tutor but the feed back when I handed in my assessments was clear concise and very useful. " "Thank you for all the information it has been most interesting and enjoyable. I am an Aromatherapist working at a school for children with very severe disabilities. After my father had a severe stroke I was sure the work I do with children could be adapted for the elderly, however, I wanted a better knowledge of working with this group of people before beginning. Your course has clearly helped and has set my feet much more firmly on this path." "I found the theory very interesting and have definitely learnt a lot more than I would have in a classroom environment. It was all very well laid out and very clear. I enjoyed the course very much and have found it very informative and have already used some of the information to my clients advantage." "I found the course very useful and rich in information. It also inspired me to learn more about the subject. I found the course easy to follow and complete. It also gives me the opportunity of revisiting. I communicated with the Course Moderator via email during my course and I found her approachable, very knowledgeable and ready to help. She always answered my requests very fast (within 48 hours). Indian Head-Massage has been practised for centuries in market squares in India. Ayurveda is the traditional, medical science of India and Nepal. You will be taught a gentle, firm and rhythmical massage. Stimulating the blood-circulation of the scalp helps to tone muscles, relieve eyestrain and headaches, improve concentration and boost the immune system. It eliminates muscle-tension and restores joint-movement by mobilising the tissues of the neck and shoulder.

Topics include: * How to condition the hair * Aims & Benefits of Indian Head Massage * History of Indian Head Massage * Introduction to Ayurveda * Ayurvedic Body-types * Cautions/Contra-indications * Dry massage/Oil massage * Carrier Oils used in Ayurvedic Head Massage * Muscles of the head and neck * Client Record Sheet * Care of the Hair & Scalp * Energy-balancing & Ayurveda * Disorders of the Skin, Head & Face & their causes according to Ayurveda * Pulse-synchronisation * Chakras * Scalp, Face, Neck & Shoulder-massage - including the Crown, Brow & Throat Chakras

Student Comments: "Thank you for the brilliant course materials. An interesting and thorough course which seems to approach the subject from different angles". "Good balance of theory and practical work. Nice presentation of course notes - pleasing and clear". "As a qualified Therapist in Indian Head Massage I was interested in how different it would be to the routine I was originally taught - I found the theory very interesting". "I can already see that the massage techniques will be a valuable and practical addition to my skills when I do my work as a volunteer complementary therapist at a local hospice". "I used some of the techniques at the hospice a week ago and yesterday with a patient with a sore shoulder - that, along with the warming oils (black pepper, sweet marjoram and frankincense) made a real and positive difference. His posture was improved and he smiled. This was a delight as this chronic ache in his shoulder was causing him more distress than the cancer and its symptoms. He said that as a result he was going to go with his wife to a local shopping centre on Saturday - the first time in months". "Although I had some knowledge of Ayurveda this gave me greater insight into this philosophical approach to health and illness. It took me a while to 'get my head round' the doshas and the concepts of prakriti and vikruti but worth the effort - it gives a broader and deeper appreciation of another belief system other than the western orthodox approach."

I think you probably actually learn things more thoroughly doing the distance learning as a result of the assignments, reading and rereading info in order to complete the assignments, watching and re-watching the DVD etc. The speed and efficiency of The Seed Institute in terms of sending out the information, marking and feedback is highly commendable and much appreciated, many thanks". "A great course with good reading material and DVD. You learn things thoroughly as you read the notes and any of the recommended books. Marking and feedback was quick and efficient. If I had any questions or needed to discuss anything I just rang to get an answer. I would not change anything in this Course."

Students' Comments:"Content of the course has been more than I expected. I have enjoyed all the additional parts to read, and I like having a comprehensive reading list to refer back to. The Theory of the course has been very interesting, with points being backed up. I have found all of the details of the course to be of benefit to my practice. The structure of the course has also been just right, enough information to take away whilst we delve a little deeper into both theory and practice. I particularly found it useful to have to explore what Cramp etc are and how to deal with them. This form of learning makes me remember more easily. I thought the video work was the most beneficial part. It was clearly laid out both visually and verbally. I like having the CD rather than an online video too, much more useful to me to watch at home for a refresher and I used it with some of my case studies at times too.I found the help and support from my Tutor to be fair, and due to my circumstances, very supportive and understanding. There is nothing about the course that I would change, and I would recommend the course and will hopefully do more when life settles down". “Well organised and clear structure, so it was easy to find the bits I needed as I was doing the course. Assignment questions were clear and felt relevant. I felt confident going ahead and trying it out after looking at the course materials, and responses from the volunteers I worked with suggested they were clear enough for me to be able to do this satisfactorily. All correspondence has been prompt, and I felt supported by the tutor. I didn't have anything I needed to ask during the course, but I felt it would have been fine to approach you if I had. Course pack arrived really quickly, and I appreciated the message to tell me it was on it's way. I don't feel I have missed out in any way through doing this online rather than face to face, and was able to keep practising until I felt confident before submitting my work which I appreciated.” “I have found the video of the techniques most useful. Having the photographs (which I have made notes against) has been very helpful . I keep them close by so I have something to refer to during treatments.”

All ancient cultures used the earth's sacred grains and legumes not only to cleanse, nourish and enhance the physical prowess of the body but also to tone the skin. In Pinda Sweda the pinda (bolus/ball) is made from grains, herbs and spices. Firm massage, using the pinda, is applied over the whole or specific part of the body. This helps to awaken cellular memory through intense stimulation. Pinda Sweda is given after the Whole Body or Part Abhyanga (massage). It is excellent in treating Vata and Kapha disorders, since both these doshas are cold in nature. This Sweda is very effective for rehabilitation therapy. This remarkable treatment uses natural, nourishing, ingredients such as Sesame Oil, Chickpea Flour, Ginger, Adjowan Seeds, Turmeric Powder and Fenugreek Powder. Please note that a small hot plate (available from Argos) is required to do this treatment.

Topics include:* Ayurveda overview * Making Pinda Boluses * Grains, herbs and spices used in boluses *Conditions treated * Pinda Sweda massage movements * Pinda Sweda for facial beauty * Recipes for Cellulite, Arthritis, Rheumatism, Wrinkles, Acne

Comment from Principal Tutor:

"This is the most delightful treatment I have every experienced - the level of deep relaxation was remarkable".

Student Comments: "Excellent administration. I found this course to be well put together and a great introduction for therapists exploring Ayurveda, it has been inspirational for me. I have been working with the oriental tradition for years so find myself pondering a bit on the differences so the uncomplicated course material has really been a help on my Ayurvedic journey".

"This was my first course with Seed Institute. It was really nice to have all of the course materials delivered to my home and exciting to receive. I found the information clear and good, I also borrowed an Ayurveda book from my friend. The DVD was clear and instructive and I could watch it as often as I wanted, so it is nice to have. I have tried distance learning in the past and have difficulty completing the course, so this is good in that it kept my interest. The theory gave the basics but that was good, because I could then spend more time on the bolus and the massage application. It gave just enough to make me want to take it further and I have been applying little bits to my life". "The administration has been good and timely, especially your marking of my work, I was not expecting it back so soon. The instructions regarding homework were clear".

Doing a case study reinforces the understanding and helped."

"I found the theory clear and thought provoking, the structure was clear, well laid out. A great course to do - it made me think about essential oils in a different way. This is the first time I have needed any help with one of your courses as they are so well written, I found the help prompt, accurate and very useful, it explained what I needed to know. As I had a faulty DVD when I informed the tutor a replacement was in the next post so that I could use this resource as quickly as possible". "Excellent prompt and constructive help. Student Comments: "The course content was comprehensive and written in a way that was easily understandable. The instructional DVD was extremely useful, as were the handbook and instructional diagrams for particular issues. The tutor responded really quickly and her feedback was very helpful to me. It's difficult to know what is expected in your assignments when you do an online course, but she answered my questions and gave me feedback to let me know that I was on the right track with what I was writing. The course has been far superior to other online courses I've undertaken, both for the content and also the assessment. Some of the other courses I've done have had really weak, multiple choice questions where some of the choices have been so silly that it's obvious what the answer is. However, with this course I felt that I was being challenged and it made me work harder - which also gave me confidence that I know what I'm talking about and doing." Claire Stewart 2018

"Everything was clearly written and illustrated. The DVD I found invaluable and, along with the support from the Tutor, meant there was no difference from attending the course in person. Everything was smooth and Tutor easy to contact by e-mail or phone, with extremely prompt responses."
